What did I say?

Yesterday was an amazing day, I took a communication class with Toastmasters and exercised the art of "Listening" what did I say? Yes, the art of listening, waiting until the other person is finished speaking then, confirming that you heard and understood correctly before moving on to another point.
If your partner's lips are moving then you should be paying attention, making them feel heard, knodding your head, leaning in towards them to show you are captivated, giving it your full attentiion. I know there are some of us who can multi task and still get the point, but this may not give the right message to the speaker.
All you have to do is pay attention, listen and hear what is being said to you, confirm that what they said is what you heard. How do you do this? By replying in a direct manner, recapping what you heard and asking "Is that what you meant, did I get it all"? Then wait for their reply, and after they make the next point recap this point also. Ask again, is that you meant, did I get it all now? You will know if you got it all by the speaker giving you the  OK. It is not until the person you are speaking to says "Yes" you got it all and that is correct, that you are in the zone. Remember you can listen and think you hear what is being said but, it is not until your partner says "Yes, that is it, you got it all."that you can move on to the next point.
I challenge you to try this with the next person you speak with. It works both ways you know. You also want to be heard and listened to RIGHT? Give me a call and I will demonstrate how good it feels to be be Heard and Listened to.
